Beaches
Grand Resort Lagonissi: It is not only the wonderful blue water of this
resort that makes it a popular choice but also the centre for water sports
which attracts athletic people; the centre oers a choice of y boarding, SUP
yoga, and lessons in windsurng.
Of course, the wooden swimming pool is a great favourite too as one can
relax by the side of the pool and order drinks from the floating bar.
Heaven Beach Lagonissi
Saronida Beach
Mavro Lithari: A little further on after the junction of Kalibion on the
Athens/Sounio road visitors will arrive at this organised beach and can play
beach racquets and listen to loud music.
Eden Beach: Refreshing smoothies or a cocktail while enjoying the comfort
of wooden beach beds with their turquoise cushions at sundown which
bathes the scene behind the beach’s characteristic rock trademark in red.
St Nicholas Anavisso: About 1 kilometre further along from Eden Beach
one meets this big sandy beach, on the left of which stands the dominant
stone church of St Nicholas. By following the footpath the visitor arrives at
the wonderful clear water among the rocks.
Kouros Surf Club: For water sport enthusiasts including windsurfing.
(tel. 2291040804)
Alikon Anavissou Beach: A big sandy beach ideal for families. It also oers
an electronic ramp for people with special difficulties.
Thymari: One reaches this beach a short way from the row of taverns in
Palaia Fokaias, just after the sign post which reads Thymari. Parking is easy
in the wide opening between the two beaches; a small stony bay on the one
side, and a larger sandy beach on the other. The water is crystal clear but the
rocks in the water can present a problem.
Harakas: This beach is located on the way to Sounio before the boundary
of the municipalities of Lavrio and Keratea. It is easy to nd because of the
sign post on the left which reads “Traditional Community Harakas”. Parking is
available a little further down on the right, and all that remains is to choose
a spot on the sandy beach without rocks in the sea for a wonderful swim in
its clear water. The beach compares favourably with that of Legraina.
KAPE: It stands out because of the truly Cycladic quality of the sea which
is not found anywhere else in Attica. Driving toward Legraina, it is situated
on the right and is clearly sign posted, “Private KAPE”; the beach is at the end
of an unmade road and there is a parking area. The rest of the way is on foot
with steps that lead down to the sandy bay with its blue water. For anyone
who wishes to avoid a lot of people, there is an alternative. On the left facing
towards the sea there is a second, smaller sandy beach quite isolated as it is
approached by wading through the sea behind the rocks
Southern Suburbs: Beaches from Lagonissi toward Athens.
St Nicholas Lagonissi
St Marina
Barkiza Yabanaki:This small town with its exotic name offers the chance of real enjoyment by the sea shore.
It provides everything from food and drink, wonderful summer music, children’s play area, and sports in order to
spend a really enjoyable day.
Kavouri: It is one of the prettiest beaches in Attika with a wonderful view
of the southern suburbs. There is another beach only a few hundred metres
away called Great Kavouri.
Galazia Beach: This beach is at the 37th kilometre on Sounio Avenue. It is a small
but very charming beach with fine sand. There are few amenities
for visitors but not very far away there are shops that sell just about everything
necessary.
Glyfada: Even though this beach is in a very busy suburb of Athens it is
relatively peaceful when compared to other beaches only a few hundred
metres away. It remains one of the places where one can swim in relative
seclusion.
